Neil enjoys serving the people of District 20 in the House of Representatives. He has a record of success working to create jobs, improving our infrastructure, and fighting to keep our taxes low.

As a legislator,
Neil Riser is a rock-solid conservative who has been unafraid to challenge the status quo and stand up to the political establishment. He is best known as the author of Louisiana’s Second Amendment, a constitutional amendment passed by the state’s voters in 2012 giving Louisiana citizens the strongest gun rights in America. Neil Riser is steadfastly pro-gun and anti-tax and has been called the most conservative member of the state legislature. Rep. Riser is a strong defender of the United States Constitution

Neil is 100% pro-life, supports traditional marriage, and has fought for parental choice in education. He believes in the free market. Neil is the former Chairman of Labor and Industrial Relations in the Senate and is currently the Vice-Chair of Labor and Industrial Relations in the House. Neil also sits on several committees including Ways and Means and Natural Resources and Environment.

He has always worked closely with all constituents to fairly represent everyone in District 20. He has an open-door policy and fights to protect children and the poor and elderly--those who may have a difficult time protecting themselves. He has fought hard to keep taxes low and to reform and improve education. Neil serves his district and the State of Louisiana with the values instilled in him by his parents, the values of community, faith, and family.

 
Neil Riser graduated from Caldwell High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management in 1984 from Northeast Louisiana University (now the University of Louisiana at Monroe). He is president and owner of Riser Funeral Home. The Riser family has operated the business since 1934. He also serves as a board member of Caldwell Bank and Trust. He is a past president of Pelican State Life Insurance Company.

 

Neil is married to the former Vicki Smith. She taught at River Oaks School in Monroe. Neil and Vicki have two daughters, Emilie and Allison. Emilie is married to Phillip Moseley and Allison is married to Joe Blanchard. Emilie and Phillip welcomed their first child, Hartwell, named after Neil, into the world 18 months ago.
